Product Information
The S54 engine is known for many things. One of its downfalls was the early production E46 M3 rod bearing failures due to mis-manufactured bearings by BMW's supplier. BMW put together service kit 11410395192 which included all parts required to replace worn or defective rod bearings. This kit is no longer available from BMW despite the individual pieces being available.

This kit is intended for early production S54 engines only. The connecting rod bolts are M11x1.25mm bi-hexagonal (12 point) bolts and are intended to be reused. It is required to install the bolts into the same connecting rod location they were removed from. Example, an exhaust side bolt must go back to the exhaust side hole on the connecting rod. Before removal mark the bolt location. The M11x1.25mm connecting rod bolts follow a specific tightening sequence which must be followed:
1) Jointing torque - 5 Nm (~4 ft lbs)
2) Setting torque - 30 Nm (~15 ft lbs)
3) Angle of rotation - 70°
Please note:Â Also inspect the front of your S54's oil pump housing. Some vehicles have had the oil pump chain come into contact with the housing and start removing material as a result. If this has occurred it would also be a good idea to replace the oil pump and oil pump chain/tensioner.
